Suffering comes from wishing things were different.

contempt towards your partner is destructive to the relationship

Suffering comes from wishing things were different, take relationships for example. Wishing wanting your partner to be different, thinking and believing that they are doing things wrong, only leads to frustration, resentment and disappointment.

When we focus on what we don't like our brain gets the signal to look for evidence and proof that it's true it's real and most certainly will find what you've commanded it to do and it colors every action they take creating friction, tension, distance, and a depletion in the bank account of goodwill.

Consider if the situation was flipped and you felt micromanaged, watched over, judged, critiqued, and constantly reminded that you're not good enough.

How would that make you feel?

Would you want to change who you are for someone else's approval?

Probably not.

It's important to remember that everyone has their own unique strengths, qualities and traits, and trying to change someone to fit your ideal image will only lead to unhappiness for both parties.
