Overthinking

What Do You Actually Know?
The mind can turn a reasonable prediction into something that feels like a current fact. This coaching question separates the information available now from the future our thinking has already created.

A meeting appears on your calendar.
Five minutes later, your mind has you fired, unemployed, and updating your résumé.
Impressive speed.
Not necessarily accurate information.
Our minds are very good at turning what might happen next into something that feels like what is happening now.
The prediction may even be reasonable.
It could turn out to be right.
It’s still a prediction.
Separating what you know from what you’re predicting doesn’t require positive thinking or pretending everything will work out.
It simply puts each piece of information back where it belongs.
What do you actually know right now, and what are you predicting about what comes next?
Sometimes tomorrow feels awfully convincing for something that hasn’t happened yet.
