Winning vs. Understanding

Healthy communication begins when the goal shifts from winning the argument to understanding the person. Real connection grows through curiosity, not competition.

Many people believe good communication means saying the right thing.

I'd argue it starts much earlier than that.

It starts with your intention.

If your goal is to win the conversation, your mind will search for evidence that you're right.

If your goal is to understand the other person, your mind begins listening instead of preparing its next argument.

The strongest relationships aren't built by the people who win the most disagreements.

They're built by the people who protect the relationship while having difficult conversations.
