Your Past Doesn't Choose Your Direction

Your past can explain how certain thought and behavior patterns developed without determining what you choose next. Self-leadership begins with noticing what is directing today's choices.

Understanding where a pattern came from can be incredibly useful.

Until the explanation becomes the reason it has to continue.

“I've always been this way.”
“This is what my past taught me.”
“After what happened, of course I think like this.”

All of those things may contain truth.
And none of them automatically decide what comes next.

Your past can explain your patterns without choosing your direction.

The more useful question may be:
Where is your compass pointing now, backward toward an old story, or forward toward who you're becoming?
